Heat pumps work by moving heat from one place to another. A ground source heat pump uses the sun’s heat by collecting it from the ground via a circulating loop of glycol. When the loop reaches the heat pump a refrigerant system extracts the heat energy which is then used for heating and hot water.
Ground source heat pumps can use heat from the ground with an average temperature of 10 degrees to heat hot water all year round. This works by the ground loop gathering a few units of energy per metre of the loop. As it uses a very large area in which the heat is constantly replenished by the sun, this then generates lots of units of energy in which it can then be utilised into a small area of your home.
The ground surrounding your property needs to be around 3 times larger than the floor area of your home for a horizontal loop . Borehole loops, which are vertical can also sometimes be a solution where space is of a premium.
For every unit of electricity, a heat pump will produce between 4 and 5 units of heat energy for your home. With a high proportion of heat from a heat pump coming from a sustainable environmental source, CO2 emissions are substantially lower than fossil fuel systems. This helps to reduce your carbon emissions and save the planet.
We have vast experience of designing and installing effective heat pump systems in various properties and can advise you on your options and which system is best suited for your needs.
Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) are a highly efficient way to heat and cool your home by harnessing the constant temperature of the earth. By installing a GSHP, you can significantly reduce your energy bills, lower your carbon footprint, and increase the value of your home. Niche Energy Solutions is a company that specializes in the installation of GSHPs and can provide you with a professional and seamless installation process. They can also assist you in securing a £6000 grant through the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme, which can help offset the cost of the installation. With Niche Energy Solutions, you can be confident that you are making a wise investment in your home and the environment. However if you are installing a GSHP you need to ensure you have a large area of space outdoors that you own or have planning permission for as the trenches and the chamber take up a lot of room and the trenches need to be long.
